Fall Festival

The Fall Festival was a HUGE success!  The students really enjoyed themselves (not more than me!!).  The costume parade was a sight to see.  Here are two pics of my darlings.

GREAT START!!!!

This school year has gotten off to a great start! I really do have a good bunch of kids. The kids really have been engaged with the new Georgia CCGPS Units. In particular, they really enjoyed learning about our solar system. Here are some photos of some of the activities they took part in.

Comic Strip:  I love the facts they included about the sun!

Comic Strip:  This group did a great job with facts and using temporal words too.
Comic Strip:  We've also been working on adjectives.
Comic Strip:  I love the solar flares on this one!

New School Year

I am sooooo excited about the new school year!  I'm also nervous about the new common core units that we are implementing this year though.  Oh well, I just have to hope for the best.

I have started working in my classroom, and may I say that it is kinda overwhelming.  Once I get rid of all of the clutter, maybe I can see the floor.

A major part for the school year to start off on the right note is Open House.  An important focus of mine is to include parents in the education of their children.  I have attached an Open House brochure that I plan on giving parents (Dropbox document).  The brochure includes an introductory letter, a school supply list, details about the curriculum, and classroom expectations.  Hopefully, parents will find the brochure informative and helpful.

Our Second Graders have been working on multiplying.  They really have enjoyed learning this new skill!  Here is a display showing what they have been working on.

On Friday, March 2nd, our school will be celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday!  To commemorate this day, we read The Foot Book.  We discussed the antonyms found in the story.  Then, students traced their feet and made Antonym Footprints.  Needless to say, they LOVED it!!!  Here's a photo below.

We have also been working on Fact Families.  Students completed Fact Families Houses.  Then, we made a bulletin board displaying the houses on Fact Family Lane.  A few pictures are below.

Field Trip

Our class recently took a field trip to the RiverQuarium in Albany, Georgia.  After leaving the aquarium, we walked to the Ray Charles Plaza.  The students were so amazed at the details of the monument.  If you have never been, I encourage you to research the amazing life of Ray Charles and visit the plaza.
